Indiana in last place on list of 'Safest States During COVID-19'. I strongly suggest people wear masks at the Greenwood Chess Club.

I hope that everyone had a good Christmas.  I intend to keep the Greenwood Chess Club running unless we get another lockdown.

I do not want to live in fear.  I feel pretty safe having been boosted.  However, for me, this has been all about protecting my elderly and ailing family.

Reportedly, the Omicron variant is much more infectious but less deadly.   However, the data is not quite clear yet.  One article said that it might be as bad as the Delta variant.

Some have predicted that everyone will get the Omicron variant eventually, including the vaccinated.  It has been reported that the vaccinated who do get infected have less severe symptoms and are less likely to spread the disease.

Omicron is expected to explode in January.  I would rather not get it if I can avoid it.

I am aware of 4 chess club members who caught COVID during the month of December.  COVID is spiking right now.

I am suggesting that people attending the Greenwood Chess Club wear masks to protect themselves and others.  The Kroger policy is to strongly encourage everyone to wear masks, although in recent months most people have ignored this.  I see this as a temporary inconvenience till the end of January, at which time we might know if the Omicron variant is really serious or not.

Best wishes,

John Coffey

White to play and win

I still think that this problem is brilliant.  If not brilliant then fun.  I may have posted it before.
